What Are Your Tires Telling You?

From knowing what size of tire you need to knowing the optimum air pressure, having the right information about your tires is vital to safe and efficient driving. But where do you find out what you need to know? Fortunately, it's written right on your tire wall!

Unfortunately, it can be hard to decipher the abbreviations. So, here at Corwin of Pasco, we want to help you understand what your tires are trying to tell you!

  • Tire Class - Class of the tire, generally 'P' for "passenger"
  • Section Width - Width of the tire in millimeters
  • Aspect Ratio - Height of the sidewall as a percentage to the width
  • Radial Construction - Construction type of the tire(typically, radial)
  • Tire Diameter - This number shows the diameter of the wheel

For example, a P215/65 R16, is a Passenger class tire with a 215mm width. The height of the tire is 65% of 215mm. It has a radial construction and a 16-inch diameter!
